Armistice Cantata
Armistice Cantata
The Songs of WW1 are a vital part of the Heritage of those years when troops would sing as they marched at almost any opportunity both to, and from the trenches, in the trenches, in pubs or during the long periods of waiting between battles. On the Western Front marching bands were sometimes sent to accompany the troops. Soldiers would regularly stage concert parties and almost every division had its own troop of entertainers.
Singing our WW1 Medley's at your concert? Please tell us - glj@golden-oldies.org.uk
The songs that soldiers sung helped bring solidarity to groups, strengthened morale and helped diminish fear and reduced the boredom, frustration and monotony of military life. Whilst soldiers have always sung as they marched the necessity for prolonged treks during a WW1 when troops often covered 10 or even 15 miles, increased the use of music whilst on the on the move.
Our Golden-Oldies Charity organises daytime sing-alongs for older people, many who live in isolation, taking place across England and Wales. These two WW1 Medley's have been commissioned by our charity for primary schools to perform as part of their own school WW1 commemoration and it is our hope that your children will learn and sing them with older members of your school community. This could be a "Goldies" daytime singing session close to you. People from local residential homes, British Legion members or the grandparents of your pupils.
