We hope that this website will help your Primary School in South West England and Wales as it plans commemorative events and projects in the months leading up to November 2018. The Golden-Oldies Charity has an award-winning reputation through its inter-generational programmes. This new project is supported by The National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund, The Garfield Weston Foundation, The Moondance Foundation, The Royal British Legion and The Santander Foundation. It focuses on the final months of WW1 leading up to the Armistice on November 11th, 1918.

Across the United Kingdom, organisations will turn their attention to commemorating the end of WW1 and we hope that through this website, your school will find all the guidance and information it needs. We have also added many links including regional information and topic help.

These are the headings which will lead you to separate pages in the website containing project plans, music scores and much, much more. Here at 'Goldies' we would like to hear from all schools who are taking part in these projects. With over 150 daytime 'Goldies singing and activity sessions' and 50 freelance session leaders across England and Wales we hope to link the older folk who attend those sessions with their local primary school. Please contact us on this email so that we can support your projects, help with promotion and bring together the young with the young at heart in your school community - this is your contact email, thank you:     grenville@ourmemories.org.uk

WW1 MEDLEY'S FOR YOU TO SING

We have two WW1 Medley's, both arranged by Alwyn Humphrey's MBE, which you can download, learn in school and also perform at any special WW1 concerts or commemorations. The first Medley - Vol 1 was introduced as part of our 1914-1916 programme and has already been performed by many schools. However, we are re-issuing it as part of this new programme. The songs are:
Tipperary/Home Fires Burning/A Perfect Day/Pack Up Your Troubles.

The second Medley - Vol 2 is brand new, and was commissioned by the Golden-Oldies Charity for schools to perform. The songs are:

I Hate to Get Up in the Morning/ Till We Meet Again/Sister Susie/A long long trail a-winding/Good-Bye ee

Please tell us about your WW1 project so we can help with promotion and hopefully, involve the older folk who attend our Golden-Oldies daytime singing session close to you.

Grenville Jones, the founder of Golden-Oldies, has a personal interest in the history of The Great War. His own grandfather, William Henry Jones lost his life at the Somme in July 1916. Through Grenville's work with his many choirs, he has a close association with the BBC and has worked with them on a number of occasions. In 2016 - Grenville presented a programme for BBC Radio based on the life of songwriter, Fred Weatherly. Fred lived in Bath in the 1900's and was a prolific songwriter, included in his titles was "O Danny Boy" - It is not widely recognised but the most popular song of WW1 was entitled
"Roses of Picardy"...written by Fred Weatherly.

You can hear this clip, which includes singing from Grenville's mixed-voice choir, The Bath Chorus by clicking HERE.
